LulzSec Attacks Escapist Magazine, EVE Online And Minecraft

Hacker group LulzSec the same group that's attacked Sony and Nintendo in the past, has tweeted that it has committed three distributed denial of service attacks on gaming companies today, bringing down EVE Online's Tranquility server, Minecraft's multiplayer services, and the website of the Escapist Magazine. EVE Online's CCP confirmed the attack and outage. The Escapist isn't accessible currently. Minecraft creator Notch said that the service was restored, but that it was down.

LulzSec hasn't shared an explanation for the attacks however, we can guess that it's say, "for teh lulz."

Update: Riot Games' League of Legends servers were also targeted by the group. When trying to log in to the game will show the "server busy" message, though there's no official confirmation from the company as of yet.

Update: Statement from CCP following the break. EVE Online seems to still be down.

CCP was alerted by CCP at 17:00 GMT today about a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) which targeted the EVE Online cluster as well as web servers.

Instantly, these services were immediately taken offline. The entire infrastructure of CCP was also disconnected from the public Internet to ensure extra security.

CCP Security is currently conducting an investigation to determine the specifics of what happened, how it occurred and what consequences could be. We want to ensure that all personal information of our customers is safe.

More details will be made public when it becomes available.
