'Minecraft: Education Edition' Officially Arrives In November

After a summer of testing runs, the full version Minecraft: Education Edition will officially launch on November 1st. When it goes live, the service will require a yearly $5 membership per user or a district-wide license, but the Early Access edition is still free until November.

According to the MinecraftEdu team, more than 35,000 students and teachers around the world have been playing around in Minecraft's sandbox since the program went live at the start of the summer. The team has added a couple of features that are geared towards education to the official release. This includes a "Classroom Mode" which gives an up-to-date view of the Minecraft world through an app that is a companion to the game. The app lets teachers manage the world settings and interact with their students in game, give items, and transfer their children around the world using a single interface. The educational edition will be updated as the main Minecraft world develops. Minecraft servers Teachers are encouraged to give feedback and feature suggestions.
