    WRUP: You Think You're Pretty

We all want to be beautiful. Let's face it that we all want be beautiful. However, if everyone was truly searingly pretty, we would likely not all be able to hide in our homes and play video games. This particular writer, for instance isn't the butterfly, but more of an unholy union of an ape and a slime from the Dragon Quest series. The real world can be extremely brutal at times.

To cope with this harsh reality, we all have our favorite MMOs to play whenever the opportunity arisessuch as right now with this week's WRUP. In light of the recent success of the quasi-MMO Minecraft we asked everyone what they thought was important that his or her own games be attractive. Watch the video below to read our responses, and then let us know what you'll be playing this weekend in the comments! Beau Hindman (@Beau_Hindman): I'll be playing DIGDIGDIG a small amount of DIGDIGDIGDIG all the time and I'm getting ready to DIGDIGDIG leave for GDC. I might DIGDIG some time to DIGDIGDIGDIGDIG play a bit of Minecraft as well.

Graphics? Nah. Gameplay is what matters.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna). I go back to my earlier WRUPs to see that I am so boring... I am still having a blast in City of Heroes. I guess I am trying to get it done because I know my guild will flourish once Cataclysm comes out. I just put together a new tanker and wow! I can remember why I choose to use controllers.

I'm not a graphics snob as I play a lot older games. In fact, I'm even considering playing the new Ultima Online boats expansion! But a game has to have something to offset the uglies, some nugget of nostalgia or a brilliant stroke of gameplay or a captivating story. A stunning game with poor gameplay, on the other hand? It's not worth my time.

Edward Marshall: I'll be playing Fallen Earth if I can find the time this weekend.

Graphics aren't a huge deal to me. However, in the present day and age, I expect better than ASCII at the very least.

Eliot Lefebvre: Final Fantasy XIV Naturally. Final Fantasy XIV is my favorite game at the moment. I am currently on a hunt to find better armor and weapons. It's slow, but enjoyable. I'm also considering taking a little time offline to browse through my massive pile of console games.

Simple graphics do not bother me, but there has to be a reason for them. Stylized graphics are an entirely different thing from games that simply look awful. The distinction between "stylized" and "bad" is extremely subjective.

Greg Waller: I've been spending a lot of my time and energy on WAR lately and plan to continue that trend through the weekend as I work to level my new zealot on Badlands through Tier 3. Regarding the bonus question Eye candy isn't a good game. If the gameplay is better, I can live with sub-par graphics.

Jef Reahard: I will be playing Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock specifically, specifically Rush's 2112, since I experienced the joy of breaking my eardrums live at Atlanta last night. Yeah, I know music games are all the rage in 2007 but whatever. If I manage any MMOs, it will be my standard AoC/EQII along with a small side dish called FFXIV.

Krystalle Voecks: Following the upgrade of my desktop, I'm going through the process of reinstalling everything. I'm expecting a lot of downloading and installing this weekend. In addition, it's more Vanguard and I spend some time reading the old Masquerade WoD sourcesbooks.

Graphics are the thing we love. One Shots is a great example of this. However, I don't believe that it's the ultimate goal of a game. Minecraft succeeds because it's fun and lets people express their creativity and not because it's visually stunning.

Lisa Poisso (@emused): Looking through old WoW alts with my husband, we decided on a new class/race combo for Cataclysm. The graphics weren't as important to me until I read the the original EQ. If EverQuest's graphics were up to the latest standards, I'd play it again in a flash. But as it stands, the graphics are a major negative.

Patrick Mackey: My computer is experiencing some issues currently. If it works, World of Tanks will be my next game. I will be playing Champions. I was told that Demonflame was coming out on Friday via PTS.

As a player of StarCraft II on the lowest graphics settings, I'd have to say that graphics rarely matter. However, Minecraft fails because things aren't visually obvious in that game. minecraft skins The role of visuals is to inform the player of what's taking place in the game and if the information isn't clear the art-designers have failed.
