If you're bored at work and want an excuse to get busy Screentendo might be the solution.

This application lets you transform any website into a playable experience for the legendary 1980s Nintendo classic Mario Bros.

And the creator of the app has provided step-by-step directions to assist in converting the pages to blocks - but it requires a certain amount of coding knowledge to use.

A developer based in London has created Super Mario code for Macs. Called Screentendo It uses the window to turn websites into 'blocks'. Mario can be controlled by the stage as in the game. However, it requires a small amount of programming to enable the feature. Screentendo created the MailOnline logo.

Screentendo was developed by London-based developer Aaron Randall.

Drag a window across a web page to transform various components into blocks from Super Mario games.

15 video games that have kept gamers for untold hours have been named finalist for the new World Video Game Hall of Fame.

The list includes arcade pioneers Pong and Space Invaders, smartphone favourites Angry Birds and Minecraft and a variety of other games for consoles and computers.

They are: Doom, FIFA soccer The Legend of Zelda, the Oregon Trail, Pac-Man, Pokemon the Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros, Tetris and World of Warcraft.

In order to utilize it, you'll need to be fairly adept at changing source code, and using the program CocoaPods.

When Screentendo is launched, a semi-transparent window appears, which can be moved and resized in relation to other windows in the application the developer explained on his site.

"After placing the Screentendo Window over a specific area of the screen and clicking within it, the app will render levels based on the content below it."

MailOnline was told by Mr Randall that he had created the application in just a few days.

'The most complicated piece of this application was image processing that makes the application take any image, and understand the underlying structure of the image in a manner that can be used to generate the game's level,' he said.

He also said that it is effective on any site, but is most effective on websites with a high degree of contrast.

Screentendo is an adaptation of the early Super Mario Bros game, screenshot shown. Screentendo is currently only available for Macs. The code can be downloaded from GitHub. Minecraft servers Mr. Randall states that the app is a 'proof-of-concept' hack currently, and has some flaws

Mr Randall said he built it as he is fond of 'building things, particularly smaller projects like this.'

He said: 'It's an excellent opportunity to learn new frameworks and languages and also to work on solving some intriguing problems that you would not normally work on.

'The idea came from an exchange with a colleague at work. He is a much of time looking at graphs which monitor our servers. I suggested to him that one day I'd create an application to overlay the graphs and transform them into something more interesting to examine.

MailOnline was informed by Mr Randall that he developed the program in just a few days. He claimed that the most challenging part of the application was the image processing. It was about making the application be able to recognize any kind of image and the structure that it is based on in order to create an appropriate level.

"A few weeks later, we had a hackday in my office (where everyone is working on whatever they want to) and I whipped something together that eventually became Screentendo.'

He has stated on his website that the app is a proof of concept hack but still has some imperfections.

He also said that the physics were still a little off but he was trying to design something that could function 'well enough'.
