Automattic Remote Senior Systems Engineer

We are looking for someone to join our team that is dedicated to delivering high availability, performance and security for tens of billions page views and over billion people who browse the internet each month from 28 locations across 6 continents. We need you to help us build and maintain an infrastructure that is global.


As part of a tiny and vertically integrated team that is responsible for a large set-up you can take part in every aspect of the management of our infrastructure, including:


- Maximizing uptime and availability through proactive planning, sound architectural choices, and rapid reaction to any failures. - Automattic services are as efficient as they can be for users due to optimization of client-side and server-side interactions and collaboration with third-party services when needed.


- Ensuring our services are secure and safe for both our users and employees by combining proactive monitoring and enforcement, real-time responses, and ensuring that backups and data integrity are maintained to ensure recovery from disasters


- To eliminate as much friction as possible between Automattic developers and their aim of releasing software. If there are questions, we provide answers typically within a few minutes, or sometimes seconds;

If you are:


Managed large Nginx configurations using advanced routing configuration load balancer, reliable performance and high availability.


Have successfully managed massive MySQL/MariaDB installations while maintaining an unbeatable level performance, uptime and integrity;


You are experienced in running and debugging PHP applications on a massive scale.


- Understand the relationship of these services with the lower-level stacks of the system stacks including filesystems, network memory management, kernel internals, etc.


- Experience in the operation and maintenance of complex web hosting systems that are open to the public.


- Can design, prototype, and maintain solutions to host needs and various issues autonomously


- Pay attention to every detail and strive to achieve operational excellence.


Are you open and available for a 2 to 3 week post-COVID travel each year to get together with your teammates in person.
