The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience that is to be enjoyed by all.

The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, is constructed as a part of the 42-kilometer cycle route which circles the capital.

נווה פריצקי The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entry is located in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Kerem junction.

The tunnel’s official opening ceremony, which is 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

Jerusalem was a popular tourist destination because of its glorious past. Elkin’s Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 for the project. Work was performed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stated, “The Kerem Tunnel project is a key instrument in achieving our goal to change the notion of transportation in Jerusalem.” “The tunnel, which is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect with existing cycle paths within the city as well as the ones that are being constructed in its various areas. It is designed to encourage bicycling within the city’s residents and to promote an environmentally sustainable transportation system in Jerusalem.”

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to move its main sewer line towards the Sorek purification plant.

Road construction, installation, blowers, advanced security systems and electrical wiring are all part of the current works. The tunnel will be safe for people to use all season.
