The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that is to be enjoyed by all.

נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel was opened in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds the capital city.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The tunnel’s official opening ceremony, which is 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a important tool to realize the vision of changing the concept for transportation throughout Jerusalem. “The new tunnel, which will connect to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join the existing bicycle paths in the city and the ones that will be laid in its various neighborhoods, in the hope of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors, and also in promoting the green revolution of transportation in the capital city.”

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s to relocate its main sewer line to the Sorek purification plant.
