The tunnel is located along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza path. Elkin’s Ministry Elkin’s Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

“The Kerem Tunnel project is a central tool for realizing the vision to transform the idea of transportation in Jerusalem,” Elkin stressed. “The tunnel, which is connected to the lengthy Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing bike pathways in the city, as well as those that will be paved in the various neighborhoods in the hope of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors and encouraging the green revolution of transportation in Jerusalem.”

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 90s to move the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently utilized as an infrastructure tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.
