The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that should be enjoyed by all.

The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, is inaugurated as part of a 42-kilometer cycle route that is a loop around the capital.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and hundreds of cyclists participated in a ceremony to mark the opening of the tunnel’s 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Elkin’s Ministerial, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million to the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the early 1990s in order to shift the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant located in Sorek, which is located just west of the city.
