For some parents, the excitement of adlescent drinking alcohol (and some substance abuse) is seen as typical “youth experimentation.” Some parents have viewed such activities normally and “okay providing it doesn’t go too far.” Some consider youth experimentation with alcohol and drugs portion of we were young. They see these as activities which can be simply a part of the risk-taking behaviors that manifest in teens and adults.

However, it’s dangerous to normalize teen experimentation with alcohol. Just one exposure to such substances can set the stage for repeat use and addiction. Further, there is data to suggest an association between experimentation with drugs and alcohol in one’s youth and obsession with such substances later in life. If parents want to ensure their children mature to become sober, clear-minded, and healthy, they must ensure their little kids keep from using alcohol and drugs.

Drug Experimentation Can Lead to Addiction

Previous studies suggested that a lot of teens reduce or cease drug use when they enter adulthood. However, new research funded with the National Institutes of Health insurance published in JAMA Network Open discovered that today’s teens typically tend not to transition beyond using alcohol if they reach adulthood, particularly if these folks were already exhibiting addictive behaviors during adolescence.

In accordance with the findings of surveyed adults who’d used drugs repeatedly in their youth, 60% reported continuing to try out drugs in adulthood. Conversely, adults who only occasionally experimented with substances inside their youth or who didn’t test out substances in any way had much lower rates of drug use
