    Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, stated that his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the improvement of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of exciting activities and ventures that connect the fascinating history of our capital city to the future of Jerusalem… I encourage all cyclists to come and take a ride along the modern, well-maintained route which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

    Elkin’s Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

    “The Kerem Tunnel project is the central instrument for achieving the goal to alter the notion of transportation across Jerusalem,” Elkin stressed. “The new tunnel, which will connect to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join the existing bicycle paths in the city and those that are paved throughout the city’s neighborhoods to encourage cycling among its residents and its visitors as well as in promoting the green transportation revolution in Jerusalem.”

    The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to move its main sewer line towards Sorek’s purification plant.
